Bed for Baby Hurst

I wanted Baby Hurst to have a wonderful place to sleep as a newborn

This bassinet has held many a precious baby, including Phil and his grandpa

I handmade everything pictured here (with the exception of the actual bassinet and the white blanket)

I just hope Baby will love it as much as I do!

There is just one thing missing from these pictures...

Awhile ago I pinned this baby blanket.

I love everything about it

especially that adorable little baby!

I found the book that had the pattern and got it from the library.

This was my first knitting project in 18 years

and it isn't perfect/ as amazing as the one pictured above.

I am not sure how they got their sheep so fluffy and perfect.

Meet Connie

This is another project I made for my friend's nursery. It was fun to make up a pattern for this little animal and customize her. She is striped like a zebra, has the snout of an ant eater...

and has a precious pleated skirt. What kind of animal do you think she is?

Nursery Decor

I finished these yesterday

and I wish they were for my nursery!

but they are for someone else 

I especially love the moon and it's funny nose.

blanket complete

 After two years, I have finally finished this blanket!!

Not even joking it probably took me around 100 hours to make.

Which is ridiculous because:

1) It can't be washed or the wool felt will shrink big time

and

2) The hand-stitching will probably come undone.

But I still love it. There are so many things that I own that are impractical

and I still love them.

 Here is a close up of the hand stitching

 Of corse the center piece is mustard yellow which is my favorite color.

Then there is a square of white around it...

Surround that with burnt orange...

Surround that with tan...

 Surround that with sage (in this row I started mixing up the colors a little to add some variety)...

And voila... 100 hours later you have this!

Reasons I loved this project:
It was nice to get away from the sewing machine
It was something I could work on during long car trips
I put so much time into it and that alone makes it special to me

crafternoon

Last week I made this dress from the same idea as this dress. I liked the first one better, but it was much easier to make the second time. In my opinion either the top or the bottom should have a stripe or some sort of design on it or it is boring (the bottom of the first one was made from a yellow and white striped knit). Guess I will just have to accessorize! I have some more knit fabrics to make another one... now I am just waiting for Plato's closet to have the perfect top for it!

And today I made this curtain. In how many seams you may ask?

One seam!
It all started when I bought this sheet from DI last year to use as scrap fabric.
Of course I gave it a thorough washing.
It was a straight sheet and the top was already folded over and sewed making a tunnel for the curtain rod to go through.
All I did was cut it to the length I wanted, pressed the bottom under 1/2 inch, and made a little seam.

I hope Phil likes it!

It is all stretchy knit and very light and summery and the yellow fabric has cute white lines on it

blanket update

Remember this blanket? I have stitched the vertical columns. Now I just need to sew them together!

One of these rows is not like the other (and this picture is upside down). I need to completely redo that row. buh.

Trip Around the Wool Blanket

Do I need to add blue squares to this blanket? I can't decide. Little by little I have been cutting out the 225 4"x4" wool felt squares required to make a blanket. Last night I finally laid out all the squares. The directions for the project are found on purlbee. I bought the wool felt for this project almost 2 years ago. It feels good to get this far with the project. Now all I have to do is sew the squares together by hand. No big deal! Phil thinks it will take me all summer. He might be right.

This is how we celebrated

Our Christmas celebrations started with the decorating of gingerbread people. This is the one I made that looks just like Phil skiing and holding a microphone.

I included this picture because I think it is really cute

The next weekend we surprised Phil with a birthday party! I like him a lot.

The very next day we had a BYU double reed Christmas party at my house. The food featured these lovelies: our own homemade turkey harvest croissant sandwiches. The Museum of Art cafe sells these and I found the recipe here. The ingredient that makes these so delightful is the cream cheese spread that includes orange juice, pineapple juice, and cinnamon. Yum!

The party theme was Fleece Navidad, hence the beautiful onesies modeled by Lisa and Amanda.

Now I take you to a beautiful hike on Point Reyes in California. The hike goes through and elk reserve and we saw a lot of these beautiful animals.

The next morning we ran across the bridge and back. It was beautiful.

This was a delicious addition to our new years feast. Here is the recipe. I really need to make this again. It was so tasty!
